Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has come out in defense of the film Chhaava after it was linked to violence in Nagpur. The movie, starring Vicky Kaushal, has been facing criticism, with some alleging that it fueled unrest.
Reacting to these claims, Agnihotri slammed what he called the “Urban Naxal ecosystem,” accusing them of waging a “cultural jihad” against Indian films. He stated, “These people have always attacked historical films that bring out the truth. They fear the awakening of our cultural roots.”
He also wrote on his social media platform, “The #UrbanNaxal ecosystem is waging a cultural jihad against our films—#TheKashmirFiles and #Chhaava are under attack because they dare to awaken the nation. Defeat them in this battle.”
The filmmaker, known for The Kashmir Files, insisted that cinema should not be blamed for real-world violence. He pointed out that movies like Chhaava, which tell stories of India’s history, often become targets for political and ideological attacks.
Despite the controversy, Chhaava continues to perform well at the box office, drawing audiences eager to watch its portrayal of history.
