Varun Dhawan recently opened up about the challenges faced by Bollywood’s older generation of stars in staying relevant. In a conversation with BeerBiceps, the actor acknowledged that reinvention is tough in today’s ever-evolving industry.
While discussing the gap between the audience and older actors, Varun pointed out that some stars have lost touch with reality. However, he praised Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan for their awareness and ability to adapt. “They are not delulu,” he said, using the slang for being delusional.
While talking about Tier two and three representations, he further said, “It used to happen earlier, isn’t it? Now why is it not happening? Because it’s become a bit tough to not only enter the industry but also decide whether one wants to become an actor or an influencer or be on OTT. There are too many options now.” He further added, “We will all have to go ahead. People who are in the powerful positions right now, there is an age limit, those who are doing the same thing for years. They are only at the helm. I am not sure if they recognize it, but it is important to change with time. We all will have to do it or we’ll lose relevance, including me.”
Varun also highlighted the importance of understanding audience preferences and staying grounded. His candid remarks shed light on the growing need for Bollywood to bridge the generational divide and stay connected with its viewers.
