Bollywood fans might recall the excitement surrounding a star-studded project featuring Govinda, Tabu, and Lara Dutta. Directed by Anees Bazmee, the film, titled Dil Laga Ke Dekho, generated a buzz for its unique concept and ensemble cast. Unfortunately, despite being filmed, the movie never made it to theatres, leaving fans disappointed.
The late Ravi Chopra directed the movie, which had a stellar cast that included Rajpal Yadav, Govinda, Tabu, Lara Dutta, and Boman Irani. Produced in 2008, this comedy-drama created a lot of hype because of its all-star cast and Chopra’s track record of success. But even though Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai was almost finished, it was never released. The movie’s release was halted by a legal dispute rather than production delays or artistic disagreements. The movie was sued for copyright infringement by American filmmakers. The film was never released, even after a settlement.
According to The Indian Express, Fox demanded $1.4 million in damages, and the creators ultimately agreed to pay $200K. The film was never shown in theaters even after this settlement. Regretfully, attempts were not taken to release this film at the time of the director’s death in 2014, Ravi Chopra. It is unclear if Govinda’s Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai would ever be released in India given the rise of over-the-top (OTT) movies.
