The cult horror film Tumbbad has made an impressive comeback with its re-release, collecting Rs 1.65 crore on Day 1 at the box office. Directed by Rahi Anil Barve, the film, originally released in 2018, has garnered a loyal fan base for its unique storytelling and stunning visuals. The re-release has managed to outperform Kareena Kapoor’s latest film The Buckingham Murders, which saw a comparatively lower collection on its opening day.
Nearly three times as much money is made from the collection as compared to its original release. The movie brought in Rs 65 lakh on its first day of release in 2018. The director of Tumbbad recalls the arduous 15-year process that went into making the movie. Additionally, Tumbbad has outperformed other recent re-releases, such as Ranbir Kapoor’s Rockstar, which made Rs 1.2 cr in two weeks, Laila Majnu (Rs 30 lakh), and Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein (Rs 1.2 cr in three days).
