Sunny Leone recently opened up about the ongoing public fascination with her past as an adult film star, expressing her frustration over the persistence of this label. Leone, who transitioned to Bollywood over a decade ago, shared her thoughts during a recent interview, highlighting how this narrative continues to overshadow her work in the Indian film industry.
Leone entered Bollywood in 2012 with Jism 2 and has since been part of various successful films like Ragini MMS 2, Ek Paheli Leela, and Tera Intezaar. She has worked hard to establish herself as an actor and entertainer, but the constant reference to her past life sometimes overshadows her current achievements.
Talking to Galatta India, Leone said, “I think that in my initial time being here in India, it is expected of the certian words or tag people use for you. That is completely normal. I think it’s more bothersome now that we are still talking about it. Come on! It’s been 13 years now since I have been here. If you don’t let it go, how do we all move forward? So, it is high time. It is not a conversation piece which is interesting anymore. It’s something you know has happened in my life. We all have done a lot of work and grown in our own ways. I think it’s odd now that a publication uses it for traction.” She pointed out that despite her efforts and success in Bollywood, the focus often remains on her previous career. Sunny has consistently proven her talent and versatility, starring in several successful films, yet the public and media attention frequently return to her adult film past.
Sunny’s upcoming film is Kennedy, a neo-noir thriller directed by Anurag Kahsyap. The film made its debut in 2023 at the Cannes International Film Festival.
