Veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai recently shared insights into his professional relationship with actor Shatrughan Sinha, revealing the challenges they faced during their collaboration. In a candid interview, Ghai recalled instances when Sinha would arrive late on set, sometimes as much as four hours behind schedule. This behavior posed significant challenges during the production process.
Ghai, known for his punctuality and discipline, found Sinha’s tardiness difficult to manage. He expressed his frustrations directly to the actor, telling him, “I can’t carry on with this.” He revealed that Shatrughan is a very overconfident person, “He said I am playing a cop in four films. Why would I do this film? So I understood what he was saying. It is very important to understand how the actor is perceiving the story. He is only paying 25-30 percent attention to your narration. Unless you are a star director and he is already convinced and has made up his mind that he would do it anyway, then he would say yes to anything.” Despite the tension, Ghai acknowledged Sinha’s immense talent and charisma, which had contributed to the success of their projects together.
Their collaboration resulted in several memorable films, including Kalicharan and Vishwanath, which were pivotal in establishing both Ghai and Sinha’s careers in Bollywood. Ghai recounted that, despite the scheduling challenges, he admired Sinha’s acting skills and ability to captivate audiences.
