Filmmaker Rohit Shetty recently shared his views on the insecurity he perceives in the younger generation of Bollywood actors. During a conversation on Koffee with Karan, Shetty pointed out that today’s actors are too dependent on social media for validation, which has amplified their insecurities. He said, “The new stars are insecure people. They are too much into social media, which is not the real world. One thing about social media is that 90% of followers and articles are paid. They need to go out in the world. Buying followers or having paid articles won’t help after two years. It will always be film-to-film. Ultimately, you will have to prove yourself on the big screen and not mobile screen.”
Rohit Shetty also explained that older stars like Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan maintain a grounded approach and are unaffected by the pressures of success or failure. In contrast, the newer generation is more anxious, with some even relying heavily on managers to manage their public image and professional decisions.
Shetty also criticized the culture of celebrity managers, stating that they increase anxiety among actors without adding value to their work. He emphasized that while the pressure of social media and public opinion is a major factor, it’s vital for actors to focus more on their craft rather than their image.
