At the SCREEN Live event, actress Richa Chadha shared a bold perspective on societal issues with her comment, “Beta padhao, beti bachao.” The statement, a twist on the government’s “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” slogan, highlighted the need to focus on educating boys to create a more equal and respectful society.
Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal, an actor pair who are now receiving praise for their maiden production, Girls Will Be Girls, attended the fifth SCREEN Live event at IIT Delhi. The film’s main stars, Kesav Binoy Kiron and Preeti Panigarhi, were with them. Richa and Ali discussed their personal lives, their Indo-French coming-of-age story, and a lot more during the session.
Then Suvir questioned Ali on how to make the world a safer place for women. “We have to educate the men. They are having a serious problem with education. It is a systemic issue.” Ali stated. It’s a systemic problem. He believed Richa would be a better person to respond to the question, so he passed it on to her.
Richa emphasized the importance of addressing patriarchal mindsets by instilling values in boys, which she believes will contribute to women’s empowerment. She passionately discussed how equality and safety for women can only be achieved if men are raised with the right education and moral compass.
