Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor has expressed his desire to remake his grandfather Raj Kapoor’s iconic 1955 film Shree 420. In a recent interview, Ranbir shared his admiration for the classic film, which is considered one of the most celebrated works in Indian cinema. The original movie, directed by Raj Kapoor, featured him in a memorable role and is known for its famous songs like “Mera Joota Hai Japani.”
Talking about the top notch quality of the movie, he stated, “I don’t believe in remakes, I believe a film is made to the best of its capabilities and you should not touch it, especially Raj Kapoor’s films. But I would love to have a take on ‘Shree 420’, like I said it’s my favourite film.”
Ranbir stated that he would love to bring a fresh perspective to Shree 420 for modern audiences while keeping the essence of the original film intact. The actor also mentioned that such a project would be a way of paying tribute to his grandfather’s legacy. He admitted that the idea is still in the early stages, and there are no concrete plans yet, but the thought of revisiting the film excites him.
The actor did admit, though, that it would be difficult to make a biopic on his grandfather’s life, since it would need to be honest and genuine in order to capture the highs and lows of his journey.
