Renowned writer, poet, and filmmaker Pritish Nandy, a recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri award, passed away at the age of 73. Nandy was a towering figure in Indian literature and cinema, known for his contributions to poetry, journalism, and the entertainment industry.
In 1977, Pritish Nandy received the Padma Shri in recognition of his services to Indian literature. At age 26, Pritish Nandy was bestowed with the Padma Shri.
A renowned journalist and poet, Pritish Nandy later founded Pritish Nandy Communications, a media organization. Additionally, in the 1990s, Pritish Nandy hosted “The Pritish Nandy Show” on Doordarshan.
A number of people, including actor Anupam Kher, have honored Pritish Nandy. In a post on X, Anupam Kher recalled Pritish Nandy as a “great source of strength” and his “support system” during his early years in the film business. “Deeply deeply saddened and shocked to know about the demise of one of my dearest and closest friends #PritishNandy! Amazing poet, writer, filmmaker and a brave and unique editor/journalist! He was my support system and a great source of strength in my initial days in Mumbai.” Anupam Kher also wrote, “We shared lots of things in common. He was also one of the most fearless people I had come across. Always Larger than life. I learnt so many things from him. Off-late we didn’t meet often. But there was a time when we were inseparable! I will never forget when he surprised me by putting me on the cover of Filmfare and more importantly #TheIllustratedWeelky. He was the true definition of ‘friend of friends’! I will miss you and our times together my friend. Rest well.”
