Actor Durgesh Kumar, known for his role in the popular series “Panchayat,” recently opened up about a challenging period in his career when he was compelled to work in a “soft porn” series after his role in Imtiaz Ali’s acclaimed film “Highway.” In a candid interview, Durgesh revealed the financial desperation that led him to take on the controversial work.
After his appearance in “Highway,” Durgesh faced a severe financial crisis. Despite his talent and a significant role in a major film, he struggled to find work and support himself. “I was helpless and needed money desperately,” Durgesh explained. The lack of opportunities and mounting financial pressure forced him to make difficult decisions to sustain himself. He said, “I wouldn’t say I was forced to do soft porn, it was just that I was optionless and in desperate need of money so I had to take up that job. This was after I played a role in Highway. I didn’t have enough roles or work coming my way after that. Hence, I acted in two seasons of this show called Virgin Bhaskar. But, I can assure you I haven’t done anything shady in the show. I am an actor, and I knew my capabilities. I just worked with honesty.”
This period was a stark contrast to his later success with “Panchayat,” where he gained recognition and appreciation for his work. Durgesh’s journey highlights the harsh realities many actors face in the industry, where financial instability can lead to unforeseen choices.
