Veteran Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty, known for his legendary performances, has been honored with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Dadasaheb Phalke Award recipient this year will be Chakraborty, a well-known face in Indian cinema, according to an announcement made by I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday. The actor, who has delivered numerous iconic films, shared that the news of receiving such a significant recognition has left him overwhelmed.
Mithun, who has been a trailblazer in Indian cinema, credited the award as the most important achievement of his career. He further added that receiving this honor was beyond his imagination and that he feels deeply humbled by the acknowledgment of his contributions to the industry. He expressed his gratitude by saying, “I don’t have words. Neither I can laugh nor cry. This is such a big thing… I belong to a blind lane in Kolkata. For a man to get such an honor who has risen from the footpaths of Kolkata…it’s such a huge honor. I could not have imagined this. I am extremely happy. I dedicate this to my family and my fans across the world.”
Over the course of his nearly five-decade career, Chakraborty has received three coveted National Film Awards, including Best Actor for his 1976 first feature film Mrigaya.
