Veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty has finally addressed the sexual misconduct allegations that have recently surfaced in the Malayalam film industry. In a candid statement, the actor emphasized that such matters should be handled with seriousness and fairness, suggesting that the legal system is the best place to determine justice. “Let the court decide the punishments,” Mammootty remarked, showing his faith in the judiciary.
He wrote in a social media post, “This post is regarding the developments that the Malayalam film industry is currently witnessing. The organizational process is that first, the leadership will react. I waited this long because I believe that I, as a member, should comment only after such official responses. Cinema is a reflection of the society: all the good and bad in society is in the movies too. The film industry is something that the society pays close attention to. Hence, all things happening there, small and big, will become topics of big discussions. Film personnel need to be careful and vigilant so that nothing untoward happens in this realm.”
It was a big stride forward when Mammootty agreed with the Justice Hema Committee’s recommendations. He understood that systemic adjustments were required to stop misbehavior in the future. “The megastar mentioned that the Justice Hema Committee was established by the government to investigate the film industry and draft a report proposing remedies and recommendations (to avoid the same).”
Mammootty categorically denied this, stating that a group like that would not work with the collaborative style of filmmaking.
