A second case of sexual harassment has been filed against popular Malayalam actor Jayasurya. The complaint, filed by a female model, alleges that the actor misbehaved with her during a film shoot. According to the anonymous model, the incident occurred earlier this year when they were working together on a project. She claims Jayasurya made unwanted advances and inappropriate comments, which left her feeling uncomfortable. The complaint is filed under Sections 354, 354A(A1)(I) and 354D of the Indian Penal Code(IPC) on 29 August.
The Kerala Police said, “Second FIR registered against actor Jayasurya under 354, 354A(A1)(I) 354D IPC,” according to an ANI report. Following the recording of the complainant’s statement, the complaint was filed. After being filed in Thiruvananthapuram, the FIR will be moved to the Thodupuzha Police Station. August 28 was the registration date of Minu Muneer’s original complaint.
Numerous additional female performers have come out to share their personal accounts of abuse and harassment, naming prominent names in the business.
These challenges have become more visible thanks in large part to the report of the Hema Committee. The panel, which included former IAS official K.B. Valsala Kumari, veteran actress Sarada, and Justice K. Hema, did a comprehensive examination into the horrors that women in the Malayalam film industry endured.
The news has garnered attention from media and the public, with many calling for a thorough investigation to ensure justice. The Kerala State Women’s Commission has also taken note of the cases and is expected to monitor the situation closely.
