Monalisa, born Moni Bhonsle, who gained viral fame during the Maha Kumbh for her striking appearance, is set to make her Bollywood debut. She will star opposite Amit Rao, brother of actor Rajkummar Rao, in the upcoming film The Diary of Manipur, directed by Sanoj Mishra.
Following her viral moment, Monalisa faced significant harassment from individuals seeking selfies, leading her family to leave Prayagraj. Director Sanoj Mishra was moved by her innocence and natural beauty and sought her out, eventually locating her family in Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh. After discussions, Monalisa agreed to join the film.
To prepare for her role, Monalisa will undergo a two-week workshop in Indore, followed by further training in Mumbai. The film’s production will commence with a week-long shoot in London featuring Amit Rao, after which filming will continue in Manipur from April. The Diary of Manipur explores themes of love and violence.
Monalisa recently also expressed her excitement, stating, “Bahut khush hoon main. Mehnat karengey…zaroor karengey. Mehnat karenge tabhi to agey badhengey.” Mishra emphasized his commitment to presenting her authenticity, aiming to set an example in the digital age.
