KBC Faces Criticism Over Historical Inaccuracy on Actress Zubeida; Khalid Mohamed Seeks Clarification

Popular game show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) recently came under fire for a historical inaccuracy about legendary actress Zubeida. The mix-up occurred during a question related to Zubeida, known for her pioneering role in Alam Ara, India’s first sound film. The show’s error led to public backlash, with fans and family members, including her son, renowned journalist Khalid Mohamed, expressing disappointment.

In order to promote his new online series Citadel: Honey Bunny, actor Varun Dhawan joined filmmakers Raj and DK on a recent episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16. Amitabh Bachchan, the host of the show, asked Dhawan and DK a question during the game that made reference to a famous historical figure. However, it quickly became apparent that the information was inaccurate, generating a lot of online attention and criticism.

“Which actress tragically passed away in a plane crash along with her husband, Maharaja Hanwant Singh of Jodhpur?” Big B posed the question throughout the program. Sulochana, Mumtaz, Nadira, and Zubeida were the choices offered. Confounded by the question, Varun Dhawan, Raj, and DK chose to use two of their three lifelines before deciding on Zubeida as their response. Bachchan went on to provide more information, stating that Zubeida was the star of India’s first talkie, Alam Ara, and that the Bollywood movie Zubeidaa, which starred Karisma Kapoor and Manoj Bajpayee, was inspired on her life.

Social media users, however, pointed out a mistake in the context of the question after the episode aired, pointing out that there are two Zubeidas: Maharaja Hanwant Singh’s wife and the actress from Alam Ara. Viewers immediately pointed out this disparity and questioned the show’s research’s authenticity.

Khalid Mohamed voiced his concern, demanding a clarification from the show’s producers to correct the factual error. He emphasized that Zubeida holds a significant place in Indian cinema history and any misrepresentation needs rectifying. Fans have rallied behind Mohamed, urging KBC to address the issue.
