Veteran actor Kay Kay Menon has shared his perspective on nepotism in Bollywood, emphasizing that success in the film industry ultimately depends on talent. Speaking at a recent event, Kay Kay stated, “Films are not a public service,” pointing out that filmmaking is a business, and decisions are driven by commerce and audience preferences.
Acknowledging the existence of nepotism, he clarified that it might offer initial opportunities but doesn’t guarantee long-term success. He said, “Nepotism is normal in any field, whether in films or other business. Films are not public service. Just like in a family business, the son or daughter takes over the father’s business, every established actor will want that his son or daughter also be a part of the film world.
He further explained, “I came from a completely non-filmy background, and though it took some time to settle, eventually, I got appreciated for my work. I enjoy my work now, so things fell in place.” He encouraged aspiring actors to focus on honing their craft rather than being disheartened by favouritism in the industry.
