A Chandigarh court has issued a notice to Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut following a petition accusing her of misrepresentation in her upcoming film Emergency. The notice was issued based on claims by one petitioner, Major (retd) G.S. Gill, who alleges that the film contains incorrect portrayals of his father, who was a prominent figure during the Emergency period in India.
Bassi’s plea argues the portrayal of the former Jathedar in the trailer of the movie Emergency incorrect. He explained the point as, “The accused, without studying proper historical facts, had portrayed Sikhs in a negative light and falsely alleged that the sitting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takth Sahib was demanding a separate state. This depiction is completely false and intended to malign the image of Sikhs and the Akal Takth Jathedars.”
He further stated, “hurts the sentiments and feelings of the Sikh community in general and the deponent.” He claims that the film gives a negative impression of Dhawan’s role during the Emergency and demands the correction of any false representation. Following this petition, the court has now asked Kangana Ranaut to respond to the allegations.
Kangana Ranaut and the other respondents have been summoned by the Chandigarh court to provide their responses by December 5, 2024.
