Jeetendra, born Ravi Kapoor, revealed that his family hails from Amravati, Maharashtra, and proudly declared, “I stayed in Girgaon chawl for 18 years. While I lived in this small chawl, there was always sufficient amount of love. Today, I am a 83-year old man and I believe the years I spent in chawl was the greatest time in my life. I was an extra actor, junior artist, I got my first break because Shanta Rao Bap found it so hilarious that me being a Punjabi guy spoke such clear Marathi.I call myself so because I was only 15 days old when my mother got me to Bombay, Girgaon and up till 18 years old, I stayed in chawl. I am more Maharashtrian than anything else. I thank you all for felicitating me with this honourable award.”
He shared heartfelt memories of his childhood, recalling how his mother would prepare traditional Maharashtrian dishes like Puran Poli and Varan Bhaat. The actor also expressed gratitude for the love and respect he has received from the people of Maharashtra throughout his career. The festival, which celebrates the achievements of prominent individuals, saw Jeetendra being warmly welcomed by the audience.
