Ileana D’Cruz Clarifies Misconceptions About Bollywood vs. South Films

Actress Ileana D’Cruz recently addressed misconceptions regarding her career choices, particularly the perception that she favored Bollywood over South Indian films. She clarified that her transition to Bollywood wasn’t a deliberate shift but rather a natural progression in her career.

The happily married mother of two, Ileana D’Cruz, recently had two consecutive Bollywood releases: Tera Kya Hoga Lovely and Do Aur Do Pyaar. Despite the fact that both of them were entertaining movies with lots of humor, her admirers in the South are upset that she isn’t represented in any movies set there. In a recent interview, the actress talked about how the perceptions she established from her first appearance in the Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra Jonas film Barfi affected the offers she received from the South Indian film business.

The actress said that with time, these opportunities dwindled as people began to assume that she had no interest in filming South Asian films.

In a candid interview with India Today, she explained “It wasn’t meant to be a shift. It was me doing a Hindi film because I genuinely loved Barfi as a story.” She further explained her decision of doing the Anurag Basu directorial and added, “I thought that it was an unusual film, and I didn’t really see myself doing anything like that or having something like that come my way ever again. It was a one-off and I thought it would be stupid to give it up. It wasn’t like ‘Oh, now I am moving my base to Bollywood, and I am never going to do a South Indian film again’.”

She continued, “But I feel somewhere when I signed up to do Barfi, there was this weird misconception that ‘she’s moving to Bollywood now. She’s not going to be interested in doing South films.’ The offers kind of just dwindled away. I didn’t really get many offers at all but yes, it’s true that I did become more selective about the work I want to do after moving to Bollywood.”

Ileana’s clarification aims to shred any misunderstandings about her career trajectory and underscore her commitment to acting across various film industries.
