Irish actor Cillian Murphy clinched the coveted Best Actor award at the Oscars 2024 for his remarkable performance, while the film “Oppenheimer” swept multiple categories, solidifying its dominance at the prestigious awards ceremony.
Murphy, expressing his pride as an Irishman, graciously accepted the accolade, thanking his supporters and acknowledging the significance of the moment. His win adds another feather to the cap of the critically acclaimed actor, known for his versatile roles and captivating performances.
Murphy defeated Jeffrey Wright for American Fiction, Paul Giamatti for The Holdovers, Bradley Cooper for Maestro, and Colman Domingo for Rustin.
His award receiving speech goes as, “I’m a little bit overwhelmed. I want to my parents Brendan and Mary and my wife, Yvonne McGuinness, my partner in life and art, and my two boys, Malachy and Aran, who are sitting up there – I love you so much.” He proudly said, “I’m a very, very proud Irish man standing here tonight.”
He continued, “We made a film about the man who created the atomic bomb, and for better or worse we’re all living in Oppenheimer’s world, so I would really like to dedicate this to the peacemakers everywhere.”
Meanwhile, Oppenheimer emerged as a major winner of the night, clinching several Oscars across different categories. Oppenheimer also won Oscars in Best cinematography and Best Film Editing category.
