Actress Anjali Anand has spoken out against the constant labelling of women as “plus-size” in Bollywood. She questioned why male actors like Govinda and Rishi Kapoor were never called “plus-size,” despite not having the conventional fit physique.
Anjali, known for her roles in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and TV shows like Kulfi Kumar Bajewala, shared her frustration over how the industry treats body image differently for men and women. She pointed out that while men of all shapes and sizes are accepted, women are often categorized based on their body type.
She said, “Nobody ever questioned when Govinda and Hrithik looked verydifferent. But nobody would call Govinda or Rishi Kapoor a plus-size actor. He is just an actor. But for a woman, I’m always called a plus-size actor. I hate talking about it. We need to normalise it.”
She emphasized that talent should matter more than appearance and that such labels only create unnecessary insecurities. The actress urged the industry to move past such stereotypes and allow actors to be judged for their skills rather than their size. Anjali Anand’s upcoming movie is Dabba Cartel.
