In a fascinating revelation, Amitabh Bachchan shared an intriguing pitch from a South Indian producer who proposed remaking the iconic film “Mughal-e-Azam” with the Bachchan family. The producer envisioned Aishwarya Rai as Anarkali, Amitabh Bachchan as Emperor Akbar, and Abhishek Bachchan as Prince Salim.
Filmmaker Mehul Kumar recounted the episode in a recent interview, saying that a well-known producer from the south called him to talk about the proposition. “Once a big producer from south called me and said we want to remake Mughal-e-Azam and we want to cast Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya ji, Aishwarya, and Abhishek,” Mehul Kumar recounted in an interview with Bollywood Thikana. They put forth a suggestion. Mehul Kumar later revealed that they intended to cast Jaya Bachchan as Jodha Bai, Abhishek Bachchan as Salim, Aishwarya Rai as Anarkali, and Amitabh Bachchan as Emperor Akbar. However, till the end of this small interview session, he did not name the producer.
