Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of iconic filmmaker Shyam Benegal, calling it a significant loss to the Indian film industry. Taking to social media, Bachchan paid a heartfelt tribute, referring to Benegal as a stalwart whose contributions to cinema were unparalleled.
Benegal, known for his pioneering work in parallel cinema, directed critically acclaimed films like Ankur, Nishant, and Manthan. His storytelling and ability to portray social realities left a lasting impact on Indian cinema.
Filmmaker Shyam Benegal, who died on Monday at the age of 90, had a tonne of tributes. While receiving treatment for chronic kidney disease at Wockhardt Hospital in Mumbai, Benegal passed away at 6:38 p.m. On Tuesday, Amitabh Bachchan expressed his sorrow on his X account, writing, “T 5233 – We have lost another stalwart of the Film Industry today .. Shyam Benegal passes away .. Prayers and condolences.” Shabana Azmi, an actor who collaborated with Benegal on a number of movies, posted information about the funeral on her Instagram Story. The final ceremonies were held at the Shivaji Park Electric Crematorium in Dadar, Mumbai, on Tuesday at 2:00 pm.
