In an interesting anecdote, Jimmy Shergill recalled his first encounter with Amitabh Bachchan during the shooting of Mohabbatein (2000). Shergill, who was cast as Karan, was late to join the training sessions as the role had been finalized just before filming began. When he met Bachchan at Yash Chopra’s house, Amitabh humorously remarked on Shergill’s “method acting,” referencing his character’s recurring bandaged hand due to injuries in the film.
Jimmy revealed the heartful and proud moment when he met Mr. Bachchan, “When Adi introduced me to Mr Bachchan and said, ‘That’s Jimmy, he is playing Karan,’ Bachchan sir’s reply was ‘He is a method actor, taking his role too seriously I think’ because (in the film) he (Jimmy’s character) would cut his hand again and again to meet Preeti. He said that in a second.”
Shergill, still recovering from a real injury with 55 stitches, was initially puzzled by the comment but soon appreciated Bachchan’s wit. The veteran actor’s quick humor left a lasting impression, making Shergill’s first meeting with him a memorable one.
