Alt Balaji, along with producers Ektaa Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor, have been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act following allegations regarding a web series produced by their platform. Reports indicate that the legal action stems from complaints that the series featured minors in inappropriate and obscene scenes.
According to reports, the case started with a Borivali court order that was issued in response to a complaint brought by yoga instructor Swapnil Rewaji. The accusation, which was first filed with the MHB police in 2021, claims that three web series, including Class of 2017 and Class of 2020, that were created by Alt Balaji featured explicit scenes with children.
The lawsuit, which was allegedly filed on October 18, 2024, claims that the online series includes scenes with minors that are indecent, including performers acting in “lewd” ways while wearing school uniforms. Swapnil Rewaji, the complainant, argues that these web series’ content not only objectsifies minors but also puts them in danger because of the nature of the filming. According to reports, the FIR claims that between February and April 2021, a young girl was the target of pornographic filming and vulgar correspondence.
Until now neither Ektaa Kapoor nor Shobha Kapoor, the film’s producers, nor Alt Balaji Telefilm have made any formal comments about the case. More information is anticipated to surface in the upcoming weeks, and the inquiry is anticipated to continue.
