Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions has announced its collaboration with Punjabi superstar Gippy Grewal for a grand historical film titled Akaal. This ambitious project will be released in both Punjabi and Hindi, aiming to bring an important chapter of history to the big screen.
Directed by Amar Hundal, Akaal is set to be a large-scale period drama, promising a gripping narrative with high production value. Gippy Grewal, who is also producing the film under his banner Humble Motion Pictures, will play the lead role. Karan Johar excitedly revealed, “We are honoured to partner with Gippy Grewal and Humble Motion Pictures Fzco on ‘Akaal. This film is a powerful representation of the history & culture of Punjab, and we are committed to bringing this important story to a wide audience across India through its release in both Punjabi and Hindi. We believe in the strength of this narrative and its ability to connect with people.” Gippy Girewal also expressed his gratitude, “Bringing the stories of our Sikh warriors to the screen is a passion project for me. With Dharma Productions’ support, we can ensure that ‘Akaal’ transcends linguistic barriers and reaches every corner of India, highlighting the strength and bravery of our heritage.”
Gippy Grewal wrote and directed the film, which is scheduled to be released on April 10, 2025, during the Baisakhi celebrations. Notable actors and actresses include Nimrat Khaira, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Nikitin Dheer, Mita Vashisht, Shinda Grewal, Ekom Grewal, Jaggi Singh, Ashish Duggal, Bhana La, Harinder Bhullar, and Jarnail Singh.
