Actor John Abraham has urged the Nepal government to cancel the Chitwan Elephant Festival, citing concerns over the well-being of the animals. In a letter to the Nepalese authorities, John expressed his disapproval of the festival’s practices, highlighting the “physical and emotional strain” inflicted on the elephants.
The government of Nepal has been asked by actor John Abraham to call off the Chitwan Elephant Festival. According to India Today, John sent a letter to Nepal’s Ministry of Culture asking them to substitute moral wildlife tourism projects for these kinds of events. Nepal’s standing as “a world leader in eco-tourism while ensuring that your wildlife is celebrated and protected” will be enhanced, he continued.
The festival, held annually in Chitwan National Park, features activities like elephant races and beauty contests. As a longtime advocate for animal rights, John emphasized the need for more humane treatment of wildlife and called for the celebration to be replaced with ethical alternatives.
