Prateik Babbar Opens Up About Early Drug Use: ‘My Family Situation Was Complicated’

Prateik Babbar son of Raj Babbar and late Smita Patil recently shared his struggles with drug addiction, revealing that his battle began at the age of 13, long before he entered Bollywood. He discussed how his difficult family environment played a significant role in his early exposure to substance use. Prateik, who is the son of actress Smita Patil and actor Raj Babbar, stated that despite his family’s fame, he felt lost during his formative years and turned to drugs to cope with the emotional challenges he faced.

He stated, “I just want to say that people think, ‘Oh, he entered films, got fame and money, and then started taking drugs.’ No, that’s not true. My drug use began when I was thirteen years old, even before I turned twelve. Yes, I was terrified. So, it wasn’t because of the film industry. Unfortunately, I had a different kind of upbringing, and my family situation was a bit complicated. That’s why I started using drugs. It’s not that fame and money in films led me to it—I had already started using drugs then.”

He emphasized that his issues with substance abuse were not tied to the pressures of the film industry but were rooted in his troubled personal life. Despite these hardships, Prateik is now focused on recovery and sees himself as a work in progress, determined to break free from his past. He recently also announced his engagement with Priya this year.
