‘Emergency’ Makers Consider Post-Election Release in Punjab

The makers of the upcoming film Emergency, starring Kangana Ranaut, are considering postponing the movie’s release in Punjab until after the state elections. According to reports, the decision stems from concerns over the film’s political nature, which focuses on India’s 1975 Emergency period. The filmmakers aim to avoid any potential controversies or backlash that could arise during the politically sensitive election season.

According to a report published in India Today on Wednesday, the film’s creators are thinking of releasing the movie following the Punjab elections.

As readers may remember, Emergency attempts to portray the fallout from Indira Gandhi’s political emergency in the 1970s, which had a significant effect on the state of Punjab. In light of this, a large number of Sikhs have objected to the movie’s release. However, sources in a recent article claimed that the film’s creators are eager to have the movie released after the contentious election process is over. According to reports, the Central Board of Film Certification, too, has approved its release with a few modifications.

Emergency is directed by Kangana Ranaut; she plays the protagonist, Indira Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India. First set for a September 7 release, the film also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, and Vishak Nair in important parts.
