Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has issued a stern warning to theatres planning to screen Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s film The Legend of Maula Jatt in Maharashtra. Thackeray has threatened action against any theatre that releases the movie, emphasizing that no Pakistani actor’s films should be allowed in India.
Thackeray’s warning comes ahead of the planned release of The Legend of Maula Jatt, a Pakistani blockbuster starring Fawad Khan, in Indian theatres. The MNS chief has a history of opposing Pakistani artists working in India, especially following heightened tensions between the two countries. He reiterated that allowing Pakistani actors’ films to be screened in India is unacceptable. In a tweet, Thackeray wrote, “Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s movie titled, ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ is going to be released in India soon. The MNS will not allow the movie to be released in Maharashtra under any circumstances. Why are films of Pakistani actors allowed to be released in India?”
The Maharashtra Navnirman Chitrapat Karmachari Sena (MNCKS), the film wing of MNS, also shared the message, stating they will take action if any theatre defies the order. The MNS has been vocal about banning cultural exchanges with Pakistan, and this warning reinforces their stance.
The controversy surrounding the film’s release adds to the ongoing debate over cross-border cultural collaborations between India and Pakistan.
