Netflix movie Sector 36 actor Vikrant Massey recently shared his thoughts on gender inequality, expressing that he feels ashamed of being more secure than women in society. In an interview, Vikrant acknowledged the deep-rooted problems of safety and security that women face daily, stating that men, including himself, often enjoy privileges women cannot. He emphasized the need for men to introspect and address the “rot within” when it comes to their role in perpetuating societal inequality.
When questioned about his thoughts on the Justice Hema Committee report that revealed the mistreatment of women in the Malayalam film industry, Vikrant said he wouldn’t limit the issue of women’s workplace safety to a movie set in an interview with The Hindu. He said, “I think I would just not narrow it down to a film set. Without discrediting what happened down south in the Malayalam film industry, without discrediting the Hema Committee… but I think I would not want to narrow it down to just what has happened down there. There are equally important issues that need to be looked into.”
He continued, “As a man I feel ashamed when I say that I am far more secure than the opposite sex. Unfortunately, they are not as safe as I am and I think it’s about time that all of us collectively come together, look at the rot within first to begin with because the change begins with you. Vikrant also vented out his disgust on heinous crimes such as rape and said, “depending on the case, capital punishment could be granted. In case of minors, it definitely should.”
