Veteran Bollywood actress Mumtaz recently shared insights into the male-dominated environment of film sets during her career. Mumtaz just turned 77 on July 31. In a candid interview with Zoom, she revealed that her male co-stars often had significant influence over production decisions.
Mumtaz, who was a leading actress in the 1960s and 70s, spoke about how producers and directors would often comply with whatever the male heroes wanted. She mentioned, “On the sets, whatever the heroes wanted, the producers and directors complied. It was very much a male-dominated industry.”
She also recounted specific instances where her male co-stars exerted their power, sometimes resulting in changes to the script or shooting schedule to suit their preferences. Despite these challenges, Mumtaz managed to carve out a successful career, earning acclaim for her performances in films like “Khilona” and “Do Raaste.”
