Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt who is also venturing her way in Hollywood is lending her star power to raise awareness about the critical issue of elephant poaching in India with her upcoming Amazon series “Poacher.” The show, premiered on February 23rd, showcases the complex world of wildlife crime and the human stories behind it.
Inspired by the true confession of a former forest watcher turned poacher, Kunjumon Devasey, “Poacher” promises a multi-layered narrative. Devasey’s remorseful surrender after killing over 20 elephants sparked conversations about the motivations and pressures driving poaching. The Amazon series explores not just the poachers’ perspective but also the dedication of wildlife conservationists risking their lives to protect these majestic creatures.
Bhatt, who serves as an executive producer, emphasizes the human connection at the show’s core. “It’s a very human story,” says Alia Bhatt.
She continues, “From elephants being a part of our family to these wildlife crime fighters protecting us, it just goes to show how we’re all deeply connected.”
“Poacher” Series arrives amidst growing concerns about India’s elephant population. With an estimated 27,000 Asian elephants remaining, poaching remains a significant threat in our ecosystem.
