Dangal movie actress Suhani Bhatnagar, who played the younger Babita Kumari in the Aamir Khan starrer, passed away on February 16, 2024, in Delhi, at the age of 19. The cause of death was revealed by her parents – Sumit Bhatnagar and Pooja Bhatnagar, to be a rare autoimmune disease called Dermatomyositis.
Suhani had been experiencing swelling in her hands and body for two months before being hospitalized at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on February 7, 2024. Doctors were initially unable to diagnose the illness. After being diagnosed, she was given steroids, which unfortunately weakened her immune system, making her susceptible to infections. The heavy dosages made her respiratory system falter, leading to an accumulation of fluid and hindering her breath. She contracted an infection in the hospital – AIIMS and succumbed to it on February 16.
Aamir Khan expressed his condolences as his production house released a statement in memory of the young actor – “We are deeply saddened to hear about our Suhani passing away. Our heartfelt condolences to her mother Poojaji and the entire family. Such a talented young girl, such a team player, Dangal would have been incomplete without Suhani.” It added, “Suhani, you will always remain a star in our hearts. May you rest in peace.”
The Bollywood actress’s unfortunate demise has created an irreplaceable absence in the Indian film industry.
